The Edinburgh Academy
Read more about how hard working pupils helped the Hospice rebuild
The Edinburgh Academy is one of Edinburgh’s leading independent schools and in the academic year 2010 -2011 it chose St Columba’s Hospice as one of its nominated charities, raising over £2,500 to date from inventive, exciting and fun events held around the school and community.
Selection
At the start of each Academic year the schools charity committee invites nominations from pupils for various good causes before voting on who will be selected as charity of the year. Around thirty charities were nominated for 2010-2011 from which St Columba’s Hospice was selected as a joint beneficiary. Melanie Masure, Chair of the Charities Committee at The Edinburgh Academy, said “St Columba’s was chosen because of the important work that it does for the local community and supporting them builds on the Academy’s existing links with the Hospice established via its Community Service programme”
Fundraising
The Charity Committee at The Edinburgh Academy, staffed by senior pupils, have taken on a varied bag of events and fundraising ideas, running a cake sale and bag packing in their local supermarket to more seasonal events such as a Carol Concert and a Christmas Fair. Events planned for this term include an own clothes day at school and a talent contest in March, which the Charities Committee hope will raise even more money.
The Result
St Columba’s has benefitted hugely from the money raised, helping our hospice rebuild campaign make ever greater progress towards its £7 million target by 2014. Thank you to The Edinburgh Academy for your fantastic efforts!
