Taste of Japan at Stobo Water Garden open day
Monday, 6 June 2011
Aspiring gardeners, nature lovers and day trippers are in for a treat on Saturday 11 June from 2pm - 6pm, when the Stobo Japanese Water Garden opens its doors to raise funds for St Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh.
In addition to spending time walking around the beautiful Japanese water gardens, guests can enjoy a sculpture exhibition from locally based artists in Edinburgh and the Borders, live music, cream teas, stalls selling second hand books, produce and home baking, and a treasure hunt to keep children entertained.
The Stobo Japanese Water Garden is at Stobo Home Farm, and was originally laid out 100 years ago. It features magnificent trees and shrubs, as well as Japanese artefacts including lanterns, a tea house and oriental style bridges. A splendid waterfall cascades from the lake at one end.
Lesley Christie, Director of Fundraising at St Columba's Hospice said:
"The Stobo Japanese Water Garden open day promises to be a wonderful day out for all the family, and would make a fantastic day trip for anyone living in Edinburgh or the Scottish Borders. It's a great opportunity to have a summer stroll through this rarely opened garden, and take advantage of the cream teas and home baking that will be on offer! We are very grateful to Hugh and Georgina Seymour for opening their beautiful and tranquil garden to raise funds for St Columba's Hospice and we hope that lots of people will come along - just remember to wear sensible shoes!"
Admission is £5 and children are free, tickets are available on the day. Cream teas will be available for £2.50 with a wide selection of fresh cream cakes and scones. The Stobo Water Garden is at Stobo Home Farm, Stobo EH45 8NX, and will be open on 11 June from 2pm - 6pm. The open day has been made possible by kind permission of Hugh and Georgina Seymour.
The Stobo Water Garden open day will raise funds to help build a new St Columba's Hospice. St Columba's Hospice will soon be undertaking a complete redevelopment, transforming it into a state-of-the-art palliative care facility. The new St Columba's Hospice will care for 40,000 patients and their loved ones over the next 40 years.
