On your marks for Hospice Fun Run
Wednesday, 14 September 2011
Physical feats and family fun will be the order of the day this Sunday 18 September, as part of the annual St Columba's Hospice Fun Run in Edinburgh's Victoria Park.
St Columba's Hospice is inviting runners of all ages and abilities to come along and enter the 2.5k or 5k Fun Run, or the 1k Fun Run for kids under 13. The St Columba's Hospice Fun Run is different to ordinary running races, as participants can complete the course in any way they like, such as by hopping, skipping, jogging, going backwards or even while wearing a fancy dress costume, the best of which will win a prize.
There will also be lots of fun family activities on the day, including a bouncy castle, face painting, a magician and games.
Mairi Rosko, Senior Fundraising Manager for St Columba's Hospice said:
"Our Fun Run is a great way to have fun, be active and raise money for charity all at the same time, and it's always a terrific family day out too. It's a great training route for larger runs and is open to all ages and abilities. We hope that lots of runners will come along to help make this our most successful Fun Run yet. Every step you take and every blister you get will help us make every minute count for the patients and families who are cared for by St Columba's Hospice."
People who would like to sign up to this year's Fun Run can turn up on the day to register or can contact the St Columba's Hospice fundraising team on 0131 551 1381 or fund@stcolumbashospice.org.uk.
Entry costs £5 for the under 13's 1k race or £10 for the 2.5k/5k race (£7.50 for concessions). Participants are also asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £20, which will go towards helping St Columba's Hospice care for patients and their families each year. The registration for the Fun Run opens at 9.30am, with the 1k race held at 10.30am and the 2.5k/5k race at 11am.
