Monday, 16 May 2011
Art lovers are invited to mark their calendars for the 25th anniversary of one of the most popular exhibitions of the Edinburgh art season - the Art Friends of St Columba's Hospice Exhibition.
This year's exhibition will be held on 2 - 4 June 2011 at Freemasons' Hall on George Street, and will give guests the chance to purchase original and affordable art from famous artists in aid of St Columba's Hospice.
The exhibition is organised by the Art Friends volunteers and has raised over £325,000 since it began 25 years ago. This has helped fund a range of important equipment for St Columba's Hospice, including a people carrier that is used to transport patients to and from the Day Hospice.
Works from around 100 well known artists will be exhibited and for sale at the three day event, including Margaret Ballantyne, John Brown RSW, Chris Bushe RSW, Michael Clark, Avril Jaques, Alan King, Liz Knox, Catriona Mann RSW, Iain McIntosh RSA, David Michie RSA, Craig Mitchell, Ethel Walker and Jacqueline Watt. Paintings, sculpture and jewellery will be exhibited.
A number of artists exhibiting this year have been showing their art every year since the exhibition began, including jewellery artist Sheana Stephen and writer and artist Aileen Paterson, who is the creator of the much loved children's book series, Maisie.
Lesley Christie, Director of Fundraising for St Columba's Hospice said:
"The 25th anniversary of the Art Friends Exhibition is a very special milestone, and is testament to the quality of art that has been available and the unwavering support and commitment of the Art Friends volunteers who put their heart and soul into this event year after year. St Columba's Hospice is honoured that the Art Friends give us such phenomenal support and we're looking forward to welcoming old friends and new at the exhibition this year."
Paula Garrow, who is the chair of the Art Friends Committee said:
"For over 25 years our members have worked to support the amazing work of the Hospice, which resonates with each and every one of us. A visit to this year's exhibition will provide you with an opportunity to enjoy an impressive collection of art and to acknowledge the value of St Columba's Hospice to our community."
