Teams gear up for charity cycle challenge with two finish lines
Wednesday, 17 March 2010
Teams of cyclists organised by Scottish law firm, Tods Murray, will descend on the Falkirk Wheel tomorrow to compete in the Halfway Hospice Challenge - a cycle challenge with a special difference.
The teams of lawyers, engineers, architects and bankers will be cycling to either Glasgow or Edinburgh, with competitors on the Glasgow route rushing to the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, and those on the Edinburgh route speeding to St Columba’s Hospice.
The teams have already been completing fundraising challenges in the run up to the day and more tasks and activities await them on their journey, earning them points which will be added together to determine the winner of the contest. Some of the fundraising initiatives to raise money for St Columba’s Hospice and the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice have included an online silent auction, a raffle, a BAFTA party, a curry night and supermarket bag packing.
The event will celebrate the end of a successful charity partnership between Tods Murray and the two hospices, which have been the firm’s joint charities of the year, for the last financial year.
Mairi Rosko, Senior Fundraising Manager at St Columba’s Hospice said: “We are so lucky to be able to depend on the support of people and businesses in the community. The partnership with Tods Murray has been amazing and we simply would not be able to raise the money we need – more than £2 million a year – if we didn’t have people’s help.”
Ashlie Turner, who heads the Tods Murray Charity Committee, said: “Both Hospices require a great deal of support in order to provide the quality of care which they provide and we are delighted by the enthusiasm of the competitors in our Challenge to help us raise vital funds. This is so much more than a traditional sponsored cycle and we are very impressed with everyone’s imaginative approach to fundraising. I believe that everyone’s efforts will ensure we all enjoy an excellent day whilst ensuring we raise funds for our charities.”
