Sell out crowd Toasts the Bard for St Columba's Hospice
Monday, 25 January 2010
A sell out crowd came together for a good cause at the Corn Exchange last Friday 22 January, celebrating Burns Night at the St Columba's Hospice Burns Supper.
Margo Macdonald MSP and Radio Forth DJ Grant Stott hosted the event, leading the 670-strong crowd through the traditional Burns Supper toasts, songs and ceilidh dances.
There were plenty of prizes to win on the night as well, including a signed bottle of special Scottish Parliament Whisky, won by a lucky guest in the raffle draw. Guests also enjoyed a traditional Burns Supper dinner, with much of the food donated by local businesses.
Lesley Christie, Director of Fundraising at St Columba's Hospice said:
"The number of items that were donated to help us out on the night was staggering: the cheeses were supplied by Clarks Speciality Foods, the oatcakes from Stockan and Gardens Orkney - even the shortbread that guests had with their tea was donated by the Shortbread House of Edinburgh. The generosity of local businesses warms our hearts year after year, and is second to none."
"I'd like to thank all of the businesses, volunteers and individuals who gave so generously of their time and resources to help make our Burns Supper such a success - we honestly couldn't have done it without them."
The Burns Supper raises much needed funds for St Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh. The Hospice provides free, specialist palliative care to patients, as well as support for their families and carers. This year's event raised £17,000.
