Light a Light 2010 update

Tuesday, 4 January 2011

St Columba's Hospice will unfortunately not be able to reschedule this year's Light a Light ceremony, which had to be cancelled last month (6 December 2010) due to severe winter weather. While the lights on the tree were switched on, no public event was possible due to the level of snow in Charlotte Square Gardens.

Each light on the tree was specially dedicated to the memory of a loved one by donation to St Columba's Hospice. The tree will stay lit until 6 January 2011.

Lesley Christie, Director of Fundraising for St Columba's Hospice said:

"We have had to make the very difficult decision to not reschedule our Light a Light event, due to the costs and resources that this would involve. We were very disappointed that we had to make this decision and that we had to cancel our ceremony as we understand how important it is to all of our supporters.

"Although we had to cancel the event itself, we hope that people understand that the lights on the Tree of Remembrance were lit, with each light dedicated in memory of a loved one. From 6th December to 6th January, the tree has been sparkling with over 5,000 lights.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has supported our Light a Light appeal and St Columba's Hospice, and we hope that our event next year will not suffer from the same challenges."
