Last few runners needed to race for city Hospice
Thursday, 4 March 2010
St Columba's Hospice is calling on Edinburgh's runners to put their best foot forward and grab one of their last free entries for the upcoming Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon.
The Hospice, which is one of the elite charities for the event, still has places for the race to give away. Runners who register to run for St Columba's Hospice can enter the popular race for free, in return for raising funds for the charity. The charity has a target of raising £10,000.
Nikki McDougall and Stewart Campbell, who are running the Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon for St Columba's Hospice together, said:
"We are really excited to be running the Chris Hoy Half Marathon on behalf of St Columba's Hospice! My Gran spent cherished time in the wonderful and attentive care of St Columba's staff who gave amazing support throughout her illness and allowed her the dignity she deserved. It's important we support them in this fantastic job they do - please run with us!"
Maggie Grieve, Fundraiser at St Columba's Hospice, said:
"If you've ever thought about running a half marathon before, we really encourage you to consider it this year, and we think that running for a charity like St Columba's Hospice is a great reason to do it! We're thrilled at being one of the elite charities for the Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon and we're looking forward to being there on race day to cheer all our runners on!"
The race takes place on Sunday 18 April, starting at Meadowbank Stadium then taking runners down to Portobello and on a scenic route of the Firth of Forth coastline. The finish line will be at Musselburgh Race Course.
Runners who enter the Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon for St Columba's Hospice will help to raise much needed funds to help the Hospice care for patients and families in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The Hospice provides free, specialist palliative care to patients as well as emotional, physical and spiritual support for their families and carers.
