Family fun and fancy dress at St Columba's Fun Run

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

It's now less than two months to go until the annual St Columba's Hospice Fun Run, which is set to be another fantastic family day out on Sunday 26 September in Edinburgh's Victoria Park.

Unlike ordinary running races, the St Columba's Hospice Fun Run encourages participants to get around the course in any way they like, such as by hopping, skipping, jogging, walking or even while wearing a fancy dress costume. The Fun Run raises essential funds each year to help St Columba's Hospice care for patients and their loved ones.

As well as a 1km race for children and a 5km race for adults (which can also be run as a 2.5km course), there will be lots of other fun activities on the day, including face painting, games, a bouncy castle, a bag-piper and CeilidhKids. There will also be a prize for the best fancy dressed participant.

Lesley Christie, Director of Fundraising for St Columba's Hospice said:

"Whatever your fitness level or age, the St Columba's Hospice Fun Run is for you! We had a great turn out last year, but we're hoping for even more entrants this time around to make this our most successful Fun Run yet. Our Fun Run is a great way to have fun, be active and raise money for charity all at the same time, and it's always a terrific family day out too."

People who would like to sign up to this year's Fun Run should call the St Columba's Hospice fundraising team on 0131 551 1381 or email fund@stcolumbashospice.org.uk. Entry to the under 13's 1km race costs £3 and to enter the 5km race the fee is £8, or £5 for concessions. Participants are also asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £20, which will go towards helping St Columba's Hospice care for patients and their families each year. Registration opens at 9.30am, with the 1km race held at 10.30am and the 5km race at 11.15am.
