Edinburgh Businesswomen take on world's biggest pub quiz challenge
Monday, 25 October 2010
Edinburgh's Businesswomen's Club (ESBC) is setting itself a serious challenge - to hold the world's biggest pub quiz. The event, which is in aid of St Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh, aims to attract over 600 quizzers all competing for the chance to win £1000 cash.
The fun-filled event will take place on Thursday 28 October, at 7pm at the Edinburgh Corn
Exchange and is open to both men and women. Each ticket is £20 and this includes pub grub for every competitor. Teams of six are being encouraged to take part in this recordbreaking challenge.
For those keen to take part who do not have a team, they can still buy tickets and will be put with other competitors on the night.
As well as the massive pub quiz, there will be a raffle and other traditional pub games such as darts, nearest coin to the bottle and many more. All with the chance to win some great
prizes.
Mairi Rosko, Senior Fundraising Manager said:
"This is a hugely innovative event and promises to be a brilliant night out. It's wonderful to have the energy of the ESBC supporting our rebuild campaign and everyone at St Columba's is incredibly excited about it. The money raised will make such a difference to us."
Caroline Buchan, President of the ESBC commented: 'We are really excited about this event, and have already had a great level of enthusiasm from those looking to take part. It seems lots of people love a pub quiz, especially when it is for such a great charity that is very important to many people across Edinburgh and the Lothians. We are delighted to be supporting St Columba's this year, as it means a great deal to the ESBC committee and members, and to me personally. We hope to raise a good sum of money, and of course try to set an impressive record.'
The money raised will help support rebuilding the Hospice in North Edinburgh, starting with the Centre for Excellence in Palliative Care Education. This essential work informs care for the dying throughout the country.

Notes to editors:
The club, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, was the first women only networking organisation in Edinburgh. Aimed at encouraging the growing numbers of businesswomen to get together and share experiences, offer advice and tap into a wider Scottish network, it has enjoyed a strong membership from start up companies, charities, public sector and professional services.
