Charity event invites guests to wear wedding dresses again

Tuesday, 18 May 2010

A fundraising event that gives guests the chance to wear their wedding dress or bridesmaid dress again will be held next month in aid of St Columba's Hospice. 250 Dresses, an event now in its second year, will be held on Friday 18 June at the Edinburgh Masonic Club, Leith Walk.

250 Dresses is organised by Sarah Broadley, who became a supporter of St Columba's Hospice after her Mum, Mary Steele, was a patient in 2006. Like many brides, Sarah was desperate for another chance to wear her wedding dress, which inspired her to throw an event where guests could do just that. Thus, 250 Dresses was born, giving guests the unique opportunity to wear their wedding dress, bridesmaid dress, or a special party frock once again.

Sarah Broadley said:

"Every time I visit St Columba's Hospice now it reminds me of the peace that my Mum finally achieved when her illness was at its worst.  I was one of many people who never really knew about the Hospice until our family needed it most and then it became our safe-haven, our glimmer of hope and a final resting place. The staff and all of the volunteers there are amazing people and all credit goes to them. From the calming influence of the nurses, the welcoming face at reception, to the arranged flowers by the bed side - any and all of these small things makes such a difference to the patients and their families."

Guests at this year's event will be treated to wedding-themed fun including a disco, a silent auction, a raffle and Irish bingo. There will even be a lucky draw prize for guests to enter their favourite 'first wedding dance' song. Prizes on the night include a framed shirt signed by Sir Chris Hoy, a rugby ball signed by Gavin Hastings, golf for 4 at Ravelston Golf Club, a signed Celtic shirt, and a luxury facial and massage.

Tickets are only £5 and can be purchased by emailing Sarah on sarah@scaine.net. Everyone is welcome (over 18s only), and men should not be deterred - many men came in their kilts last year!
