Case study: John's Darts Competition - the Wiremill Club Open

John Nisbet has been holding an annual darts competition at his local social club for the past five years, after his mother was a patient at St Columba's Hospice. He's managed to raise over £12,000 in that time, which has gone a long way to help the Hospice continue providing care for patients and support for their loved ones.

John's event has grown to become one of the top darts contests in Scotland, with hundreds of players now coming from all over the country to compete. This year's event, held on 6 Feb 2010 at the Wiremill Social Club, had another fantastic turnout, with 124 men and 33 women battling it out for the top prize.

The winner of the men's title was Andy Bolton, who defeated local star Harry Todman in the final. The ladies title was won by Lynn Cowan from East Renfrewshire, after beating Frances Lawson. One for the future was young Jack Santana, who, at only 10 years old, was not fazed by the occasion, winning his opening match 3-1.

This year's event managed to raise an incredible £2490.72 for St Columba's Hospice, through collection tins on the night and a raffle.
