Tods Murray

St Columba's Hospice was chosen as one of the 'Charity of the Year' partners for Scottish law firm, Tods Murray during 2008/2009. Read more about this successful charity partnership.

Tods Murray is a leading Scottish Law firm with offices in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. This meant that when the Tods Murray Charity Committee was looking for charities to consider as 'Charity of the Year', it did so with an eye on whether the charity would be able to provide fundraising and volunteering opportunities in both cities.

In order to address this, St Columba's Hospice joined forces with The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. Together we created a partnership which matched the firm's requirements. Once appointed as the Tods Murray 'Charity of the Year', we were able to work together to organise staff tours and visits to the Hospices, for interested Tods Murray staff, providing a level of knowledge and understanding that engaged the staff with us.

The Tods Murray Charity Committee was committed and engaged and organised many fundraising events and meetings throughout the period of the 'Charity of the Year' partnership. The meetings were attended by members of the St Columba's and PPWH teams.

As the partnership continued we were fortunate enough to be able to create and plan what was called 'The Halfway Hospice Challenge', a cycle and fundraising competition. Teams started at the Falkirk Wheel and, cycled along the Canal, heading either West or East. The teams ended their journey at the respective Hospices. This event was hugely successful and was the main fundraising event of the year.

During our year in partnership with Tods Murray, the firm raised an incredible £30,251.43 for the two Hospices, which means that St Columba's Hospice will receive £15,125.72.

Ashlie Turner, Head of Personnel & Development at Tods Murray said:

"It is great to have been able to support, and help raise funds for, these two amazing Hospices in order to help them continue to provide invaluable specialist palliative care services for the people of Edinburgh and Glasgow. After staff visited the hospices they very quickly rose to the challenge and committed a great deal of time, commitment and energy to raise as much as they could. It was a terrific experience for everyone involved and we thoroughly enjoyed the partnership with the hospices as well as the benefits of working with different people within our own offices whilst involved in the fundraising activities.  We were also delighted to have been able to raise such a fantastic total."
