EC Harris
The Edinburgh office of EC Harris recently held an alternative race night for St Columba's Hospice, which resulted in a £16,000 donation! Read more about this great initiative and event here.
St Columba's Hospice was the recipient of a generous £16,000 donation from EC Harris, the Built Asset Consultancy, after the company's Scottish offices raised the most per head nationally as part of their UK and Ireland Community Challenge.
The enterprising Edinburgh team held an 'alternative race night' and auction on 31 March, raising £6,000, but were thrilled to find out that by winning the Community Challenge, EC Harris would be adding an extra £10,000 to their total for St Columba's Hospice.
The race night was held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel. Instead of flat screen TVs showing horse racing, guests were transformed into the 'jockeys' for five wooden horses per race. Each jockey had to wind string connected to their wooden horse to make them gallop for a grandstand finish.
Doug Munro from EC Harris said:
"In our 100th year EC Harris wanted to demonstrate our commitment to the communities in which we work and the Community Challenge has been a great way for our business and people to really engage and help local charities. So far this year the Community Challenge has raised over £87,000 across the UK and we are delighted for St Columba's that Scotland won the UK prize of an additional £10,000 through the generosity of our clients and people."
The funds raised from the event will go towards building the new St Columba's Hospice. St Columba's Hospice is about to start a complete rebuild, transforming it into a state-of-the-art palliative care facility. The rebuild will create more single rooms, space in single rooms for family members to stay overnight, and more modern, spacious and family friendly facilities. The new St Columba's Hospice will care for 40,000 patients and their families over the next 40 years.
